Kristine Porter’s primary tenet is “learn it, do it, teach it.” Learning and passing it on is both her way of life and her business strategy.
Born the youngest of five children, Kristine was the first in her family to graduate from college. She earned an engineering degree from Purdue University through a co-op program which enabled her to finance her way through school.
Working for major corporations including Frito Lay and Motorola, Kristine later earned a Master of Science Management from Lake Forest Graduate School.
As she married and started a family, she looked for more creative ways to allow her to raise her four children while generating income. She sold her own creations in painting, weaving, calligraphy and scrapbooking using the systems processes from her engineering experience.
Her background, which included an ergonomics emphasis, blended easily with her creative talents resulting in a highly successful home redesign and staging business. As she learned, she then began to teach, forming a partnership and building a training company with over 300 graduates who parlayed their interest in home redesign into income generating businesses.
Taking on two more partners, they formed the Society of Decorating Professionals, where she served as Executive Director for two years.
Despite the success, she found her own personal growth was at a standstill. Determined to alleviate the small discontent dogging her, she asked herself what she could do to turn it around.
The answer was, say “Thank you.”
By acknowledging the small things, Kristine witnessed the power of appreciation. Her new outlook consisted of asking herself while dealing with others: “What can I appreciate about them?” Then, she took a powerful step – she acknowledged them with something tangible.
Her personal challenge consisted of sending one unexpected thank you card or note each day, a personalized, hand written message, instead of the hurried text or email. She was startled at the intensity of the reactions her small gesture sparked.Like ripples in the water, the gratitude multiplied, coming back to her in waves greater than what she had sent.
Already sold on the idea and power of a thank you, Kristine then discovered a company that aligned with her core values. As a senior representative for Send Out Cards, Kristine empowers and encourages others to experience the fulfillment of saying “Thank you.”She believes the system and service of Send Out Cards is the perfect tool for anyone to turn good intentions into action.
Kristine knows that most people do appreciate those around them, but get too busy to follow through. Whether it’s reminding someone they are not alone or appreciation for their part in the car pool, she is convinced that taking a moment to say thank you has tremendous power. For businesses, large or small, the personal touch creates tremendous customer loyalty.
What she first considered an effective tool has grown into a successful business based on the simple idea of making sure the appreciation that was thought is actually sent. She offers two approaches, teaching individuals and businesses how to use Send Out Cards as an ongoing outreach to their customers, or providing that service for them. Whichever method you choose, the outcome will be the same – they will know you were thinking of them and wanted to say “Thank you.”
